Partner – ESG, EHS Due Diligence, Transaction and Sustainable Finance (Africa) – (Partner)

ERM is experiencing a rapid uptake in financial services clients demand for our advisory services related to EHS Due Diligence, Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) and Sustainable Finance. To support the growth demand, we are looking to further strengthen our team at the senior level with the appointment of a Partner to continue to work with our clients in the above areas. This role can be based in our Johannesburg, Durban or Cape Town offices or any other countries where ERM has a presence in Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique ) .

Our M&A team is currently going through a period of significant growth in the market whilst also servicing an existing large client base. The team works on a wide range of challenging technical and strategic projects, such as technical, EHS, climate risk and social due diligence, ESG strategy and sustainable finance. This Partner will provide inspirational leadership that engages and motivates all levels of staff and contribute to the achievement of ERM’s environmental due diligence service offering and growth strategy for the region. He or she will have the experience and capability to lead strategic engagements at the C-suite level. The Partner role is to lead on EHS/ESG Due Diligence/M&A projects, Climate Change, Sustainable Strategy for a range of clients, including Financial and Corporate clients.

This person will provide inspirational leadership that engages and motivates all levels of staff and contribute to the achievement of ERM’s EHS DD, ESG and Sustainable Finance and Climate Change, Sustainable Strategy service offering and growth strategy for the region. The ideal candidates will have robust subject matter expertise in this field, having worked with clients in the financial services sector. They will also have the experience and capability to lead strategic engagements at the C-suite level.

We are looking for someone who can deliver but equally maintain and build client relationships in the Finance space, so that they can also be originating sales. The incoming Partner will be expected to capitalize on existing relationships with clients and expanding that further through delivering on projects and building relationships with new clients. We welcome applications of candidates coming from the specialized environmental and sustainability consultancies as well as engineering consultancies and industry sectors such as insurance, banking/finance, private equity and related sectors.

Ideal candidates will have prior experience managing and successfully delivering EHS audits, medium complexity projects and/or specific deliverables or phases of work on larger programmes on time and in budget, including technical and financial oversight; ability to build, coach, and mentor collaborative teams. You will have demonstrable ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. You will enjoy working in a multi-cultural, international environment and you will have good attention to detail. This role will also suit someone who possesses strong organizational and multitasking capabilities. You must be an expert in South Africa or other Africa’s regulation. Educated to environmental studies, safety and or engineering or related discipline, you will be fluent in English, with excellent reporting writing skills.

Role Responsibilities

As a Partner, you will be driving for the commercial growth of the EHS DD, ESG and Sustainable Finance services, supporting as well Climate Change and Sustainable Strategy in Africa market, working with existing clients and winning new business. The main focus of the role would be to:

  • Build relationships with selected financial organizations, e.g. commercial banks, private equity firms, development financial institutions and/or export finance organizations;
  • Work closely with the EMEA Finance Sector Regional team to develop robust and proactive Growth strategy and Go-to-Market plan for the Africa region to drive commercial growth for the work within the financial sector driving growth in a diverse range of EHS DD, ESG, Climate Change, Sustainable Strategy and Sustainable Finance driven services;
  • Support investor-driven ESG/Sustainable Finance opportunities with Corporate Clients;
  • Work closely with peer Partners, client account directors / account managers as well as EMEA Finance Sector Regional team to implement the growth strategy and Go-to-Market plan in the Africa market and where appropriate, support other significant financial sector opportunities in wider EMEA (expected to be related to ESG, Climate Change and Sustainable Finance);
  • Work closely with the EMEA Finance Sector Regional team to co-develop and promote thought leadership and effective sales support materials;
  • Lead the technical delivery to ensure service excellence under our Partner in Charge (PiC) system for project management and direction to ensure successful financial outcomes, risk management and quality control;
  • Contribute to the achievement of ERM’s Strategy, along with the company’s commercial targets and ambitions for profitable growth.

This role can be based in our Johannesburg, Durban or Cape Town office or any other Africa’ s countries where ERM has a presence in Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique ) .

The ideal candidate will provide inspirational leadership that engages and motivates all levels of staff and contribute to the achievement of ERM’s Africa Team and Sustainable Finance service offerings and growth strategy for the Africa region. As a Partner, you will be a strong champion of safe working environment for staff, sub-contractors and clients. You be responsible for the commercial growth of the Finance Services in this region, working with existing clients and winning new business. You will lead the technical delivery to ensure service excellence under our Partner in Charge (PiC) system of project management and direction.

This exciting and challenging position will require a well-balanced individual capable of delivering the following key objectives:

  • Develop business opportunities – personally win project work annually. Identify and develop new opportunities, prepare effective technical proposals, and take active leadership role in developing new business with new and existing clients
  • Build client relationship focusing on the business outcome which our clients want to achieve in the medium and long term whilst being keenly aware of and adapt to changing market conditions
  • Serve as a key member of the ERM team to drive double-digit profitable growth for the service line
  • Work collaborative with our Account Directors/Managers to continuously develop Key Client relationships to meet business development needs
  • Design and direct large projects and multi-person project teams . Achieve client’s expectations for scope, budget, schedule, and quality
  • Provide leadership to coach, inspire and mentor personnel for overall success of the team
  • Develop a working understanding of ERM’s other services and actively support cross-selling these services to existing clients
  • Coordinate with ERM offices in the Europe, UK, US, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America regions
