Associate Director, Tax Counsel
Job description:
JOB PURPOSE :
The Tax Counsel Associate Director should take the lead on the tax review of 3rd party business deal arrangements including any operational modelling resulting in minimizing the Group Tax exposure. He/she is also responsible to put in place, revise and maintain all intercompany agreements with a focus on, but not limited to, intra-MENA’s entities and between the MENA’s entities with other locations such as Europe, UK and the US.
For a selected number of locations in MENA, he/she will:
- Have oversight of the operational needs of international audits and related documentation which may change from time to time in coordination with the wider tax group and as well as regional CFOs.
- Be responsible to ensure the application of double tax treaties and minimization of withholding taxes by working closely with external advisors and various internal stakeholders for select countries.

The Tax Counsel Associate Director should ensure that all these external arrangements are in line with the tax strategy of the Group and should ensure the limitation of tax leakage by working with various internal stakeholders on building tax efficient operating structures.
- To provide tax advice to the Group’s internal functions (business development, finance, legal etc) on the tax implications and costs associated with intragroup and third-party deals for various operational projects from a tax perspective.
- He/she is also responsible to put in place, revise and maintain all intercompany agreements with a focus on, but not limited to, intra-MENA’s entities and between the MENA’s entities with other locations such as Europe, UK and the US
- For some selected countries, takes the lead on specific structuring projects to ensure compliance of tax matters is followed through correctly minimizing tax leakage and improving the process to manage tax compliance.
- For some selected countries, have oversight of the operational needs of international audits and related documentation which may change from time to time in coordination with the wider tax group and as well as regional CFOs
- To assist the Global Head of Tax and the wider Group Tax teams in the drafting and preparation of tax strategies, proposals and presentations to the Board of Directors and the Group’s Executive Committee.
COMMUNICATIONS & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS :

- The candidate must be able to co-operate and liaise on behalf of the Group Tax team with multiple functions within the Hikma Group including, but not limited to the business development department, global legal department and various business units within MENA, US and Europe.
External:
- Working with external tax advisors and lawyers as needed
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum: A degree in business law or related field with a tax focused experience at a law firm or Big Four accountancy firms.
- Preferred: A background in tax accountancy.
EXPERIENCE :
- Minimum: 8 years of professional work experience in a related field
- Preferred: 10+ years professional work experience in a related field
SKILLS :
- Independent and proactive who is proficient in identifying tax issues and articulating related tax provisions in line with applicable laws and regulations
- Excellent interpersonal skills needed to interact with both internal and external stakeholders
- High level of attention to detail and precision in the review of facts and applicable laws and regulations
- Excellent communication skills in articulating outcomes of analysis and methodology of doing so to both tax practitioners and non-tax practitioners
- Leadership skills needed to be able to lead individuals and delegate as necessary
- Proficient experience in MS office applications
